How to decide whether you need a slitting machine or a log roll cutting machine

Both slitting machine and log roll cutting machine are used to convert the big width jumbo roll of tapes into smalle width coils. Sometimes people may get confused about which type of machine he need to choose when he is going to covert one roll of tape. To answer this question, firstly let's make clear how does each type of slitting machine work.

Slitting machine unwinds the jumbo roll of tape, slit the tape with proper blades and then rewind the slit strips into coils.

Log roll cutting machine cuts the whole roll without unwinding it. 

Slitting machine slit the tape with more than 1 set of blade. If the jumbo roll does not need to be trimmed, the needed quantity of blades will be no.s of slit strips minus 1. If trimming needed, blades quantity will be no.s of slit strips plus 1. 

Log roll cutting machine cuts one jumbo roll with 1 set of blade only. The blade moves to cut the roll from time to time.

With slitting machine, the tape will pass many feeding rollers. It needs tension control at the unwinding side and rewinding side.

Width log roll cutting machine, it does not need any tension control because the tape roll just rotates on the shaft, but never get unwound.

Slitting machine can slit big diameter jumbo roll, 800 - 1000mm e.g, rewind big diameter coil as finish product. Log roll. Log roll cutting machine cannot cut bigger diameter tape roll than its blade diameter. Generally the bigger the blade is, the more expensive the machine is. Sometimes, the machine cost may increase several times when bigger blade is requested.

Therefore, 

Slitting machine is good for big diameter tape rolls, yielding material and hard material which is difficult to be cut by common blade:

1. big diameter tape roll: non-woven tape, water blocking tape, paper roll

2. yielding material: aluminum and copper foil, mylar foil

3. hard material: metal tape and etc

Log roll cutting machine is good for small diameter rolls like PVC insulating tape, adhesive tapes, gift color tape and etc.
