Why people rarely use traverse unit in tape spooling machine?

Traverse unit is a smart device which can guide the relevent mechanism moving traversely. The traverse speed and moving stroke is adjustable. What more important is that the cost is quite cheap. Then why people rarely use it in the tape spooling machine?

Tape spooling process requests more precise control, especially when the tape comes to the ends of the spool it request the moving speed to be a little faster than it in the middle main area of the spool. In this way, the traverse unit cannot afford this speed variation. So, traverse unit is mostly used in wire spooling process.

Addtionally, tape spooling have different winding patterns, for example: traverse winding, step winding, spikes and conical shape. In order to acheive these shapes of spool winding, the traverse guider need to move according to a programmable procedure. Obviously the simple traverse unit cannot complete this work. It needs to use servo motor system to control the traverse moving.
